Hello all. You can calm your fears of recieving a less than par quality product with this item. I did not buy my boot knife from this site, but it is the exact same item, so in other words, potato, pototto. Well then, getting back on the subject of the knife, this is one of the finer quality knives that I have had so far. You can use the clip to attach it to your waist or your boot, hence the name boot knife. I modified my sheath a little in order to strap it around my ankle. The knife is coated with a black layer of paint, which prevents rust. This is not a two piece (blade and handle) knife. The blade and handle are one, and are made of metal, which greatly increases the durability of the item, and lessens the chance of it breaking into two pieces. The handle is very smooth, but easy to grip, and is very comfortable. To my surprise, I found this knife to be somewhat balanced. This brought to mind the question of whether or not it was throwable. I can assure you, it is very throwable. I have never thrown knives before, but after about an hour of practice, I was landing hits into boards five feet away. I am not guaranteeing that the purchaser of this product will be able to sucessfully throw this knife on his/her first attempt, but throwing is a definite possiblity with this product. Don't worry, it is very durable, for I have missed my target quite a few times, in which case the knife would strike the concrete floor. To my amazement and relief, the knife was still in one piece. (A word to the beginning thrower- do not throw as hard as you can. A light throw does just fine with this model at 3 feet. In my case, I land more hits by holding the knife by the blade when I throw it- oh, and practice first by throwing the knife into the ground)
A quick note to the buyer- please be safe with knives of any kind. This is a very nice knife, but it is not one to be carried around everywhere, for this knife's shape and make/model limit it to be classified as a weapon more than anything else, unlike a pocket knife, which can in most cases be classified as a tool.
Don't forget to enjoy yourselves, though.

Cheers

the smith and wesson hrt is a great knife and not bad for the price. Out of all my buck knives the smith and wesson boot knife is my favorite.

This knife is very nice and sharp. that is the right size for me, not too long and not too short, the grip is very comfortable.
whether you are using it from Camping, daily basic or all the way to self-defense, this is one of your choice.

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny   February 20, 2010

Pros:
Small, concealable, storable. I keep it in the tank bag of my motorcycle.
Very solid feel to it, good weight distribution.
Came from the factory as sharp as I need it. Not too sharp, but good enough for self defense.

Cons:
I don't like the belt clip on the sheath. Wish there was some kind of a way to attach it more securely to things than just a spring belt clip.
